An incredibly original and appealing drama about the quest of two intimate lovers to find the perfect home to raise their child.
On finding a broader, more expanded version of joy.
You know, I always liked Keith Olbermann when he was a sports talking head. Funny and insightful, he knew what he was talking about. Take him out of that world and put him into politics and you get the most one-sided, ill-considered performance art on television. It’s terrible and I don’t know how anybody can watch it. It’s like a show about hell and its demons breaking through the earth’s crust to consume us all except that the demons are Republicans.
An engrossing documentary on the life and music of the man many consider to be the most important composer of all time.
Dewey’s saying echoes Buddhist notions of impermanence and not-self. Bodhipaksa points out that the Buddhist position is not merely descriptive of how things are. Rather it amounts to a technology of happiness — a set of perspectives and tools that allows us to create more deeply fulfilling lives.

How technologies like email, texting, and Facebook are altering morning rituals so families have less time together.
Over at my blog, I’ve posted an article on what’s at stake in the John Edwards “love child” controversy. With an aide to the former senator, vice-presidential nominee, and presidential candidate set to reveal that Edwards is the father of his ex-mistress’ baby, news reports indicate that Edwards may be mulling acknowledging the child as his own. I think this sad story is indicative of a larger tearing, not just in our cultural fabric, but in the cosmic fabric. I’d be interested to know what you think.
“O Thou who didst vex Thy prophet by the greatness of Thy mercies, Who smotest the gourd, but didst spare the sinners; have mercy on us also, Ninevites all, O Savior Christ, and by the intercessions of Thy glorious Prophet Jonah spare us also, who know not our right hand from our left hand, yet have not denied Thee, the only Friend of Man.” (From the Matins Service, Jonah the Prophet, September 21.)
This prayer from the Orthodox service commemorating the Prophet Jonah (actually transferred to September 22 each year because of the “Leave-Taking of the Holy Cross [Sept. 14]” on Sept. 21), reminds me of the mercy of God in constantly calling us to repentance, even when it seems no one is listening. I can at least listen, daily. And it is best to assume that most people indeed do not know their right hand from their left hand (else why such stupid and ultimately harmful sins?), lest we fall into the sort mind that Jonah had, who seemed to want the Ninevites to “get theirs.” God forbid that we all get what’s coming to us. His mercy is beyond measure.

CCK09: Connectivism and Constructivism – Christy Tucker
A framework for comparing four learning theories – behaviourism, cognitivism, constructivism, and connectivism:
- How does learning occur?
- What factors influence learning?
- What is the role of memory?
- How does transfer occur?
- What types of learning are best explained by this theory?
A shorthand for designing UI flows – Signal vs. Noise
Flows are hard to communicate during the design process. Drawing out every state of a flow is too time-consuming. And drawings become instantly outdated as screens change. On the other hand, flows written down into stories or paragraphs are hard to reference and they don’t easily decompose into checklists for design and review.

Second, fourth and sixth grade children with and without handwriting disabilities were able to write more and faster when using a pen than a keyboard to compose essays, according to new research
“People think language is a single thing. But it’s not,” said Berninger. “It has multiple levels like a tall building with a different floor plan for each story.”
